How to take charge of your health.

So in this society, we are all about health, gyms, health clubs, healthy foods, and trends, but has anyone wondered why we are not healthy?

Why is it that we have all the health available, but none of us are getting better? I will go through some common issues that we might know, but maybe some don’t know.

Sugar is a significant problem; most of us consume way too much in a day. Some common types of added sugar are brown sugar, honey, high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, malt sugar, molasses, raw sugar, and sugar molecules ending in ose like dextrose, fructose, glucose, lactose maltose, and sucrose.

There is a big difference between added sugar and naturally occurring sugar. Added sugar is any sugar or sweetener added to foods or beverages during preparation or processing.

There is naturally occurring sugar, which is found in fruit as fructose and milk as lactose. While sugar is sugar, naturally occurring sugar is combined with fiber, which makes the sugar a more healthful, sustained source of energy.

The recommended daily dose of sugar that the American Heart Association recommends is 100 calories of added sugar, which is six teaspoons or 24 grams for women, and 150 calories, which is nine teaspoons or 36 grams for men. Teens and children should consume no more than six teaspoons of added sugar daily. Are you starting to see the problem?

In reality, the average American consumes about 19.5 teaspoons (82 grams) of added sugar each day, which is three times the recommended amount and adds up to 66 pounds of added sugar per year.

Eating a diet high in added sugar can also increase the risk of diabetes, high blood pressure, unhealthy cholesterol levels, and much more.

Fitness: How often do you work on average? What are your standard practices for exercise? The majority of sociality does not do any type of exercise. That is a problem because your muscles need resistance, and your heart needs higher heart rates to move blood through the body faster.

Exercise has been shown to improve your mood and decrease the feeling of depression, anxiety, and stress.

Exercise produces changes in parts of your brain that regulates stress and anxiety. It can also increase the brain's sensitivity to the hormone serotonin, which can relieve the feeling of depression.

Not sure if any of you do high-intensity training, but have you ever done a challenging workout, and you're dying during the workout, but your body hits that endorphin spike? Your pain seems to lessen, and you get a little faster. That is your body realizing the pain and giving you some positive feelings to overcome. That is the magic of working out. The hardest part is starting.

Diet: Diet plays an essential role in your life; what you eat matters. Food is not just food! Checking ingredients is essential and labels. So I’m going to go through a few tips that have helped and continue to help me.

Eating organic is so essential; food nowadays is genetically modified. What is genetically modified? It is food that has been genetically altered with foreign genes, bacterial and viral vectors, viral promoters, and antibiotic maker systems and it is engineered into our food.

These types of food cause toxicity; you can have an allergic reaction to this type of food. Without proper labeling, people with known food allergies have no way of avoiding the potentially severe health consequences of eating GE foods containing hidden allergenic material.

There is another allergy risk associated with GE foods. These foods could create thousands of different and new allergic responses.

Antibiotic reaction

Another hidden risk of GE foods is that they could make disease-causing bacteria resistant to current antibiotics, resulting in a significant increase in the spread of infections and diseases in the human population.

Immuno-suppression

There were British scientists Arpad Pusztai, and Stanley W.B. Ewen did a study on rats, with them consuming potatoes that were genetically altered. Their findings were that the rats showed detrimental effects on organ development, body metabolism, and immune function.

Cancer

There are findings to show that in cows treated with rBGH, their dairy products have an increased level of hormone in it; that hormone is called insulin-like growth factor-1 called IGF-1. The Canadians and Europeans further found that the FDA had utterly failed to consider a study that showed that the increased IGF-1 in rBGH milk could survive digestion and make its way into the intestines and bloodstreams of consumers. These findings are significant because numerous studies now demonstrate that IGF-1 is an essential factor in the growth of breast cancer, prostate cancer, and colon cancer.

Loss of nutrition

Genetic engineering can also alter the nutritional value of food. In 1992, the FDA’s Divisions of Food Chemistry & Technology and Food Contaminants Chemistry examined the problem of nutrient loss in GE foods. The scientists explicitly warned the agency that the genetic engineering of foods could result in “undesirable alteration in the level of nutrients” of such foods. They further noted that these nutritional changes “may escape breeders’ attention unless genetically engineered plants are evaluated specifically for these changes.” Once again, the FDA ignored findings by their scientists and never subjected the foods to mandatory government testing of any sort.

I was raised on box items, things you can heat up in the microwave rather quickly, and through the years, I have just learned something new about eating healthy and maintaining health each year. Health is a journey that takes a lot of trial and error. I advise anyone to check labels, know what you are putting into your body, and just don’t eat it because it tastes good.

More than one-third of adults in the United States have obesity. In the United States, 36.5 percent of adults have obesity. Another 32.5 percent of American adults are overweight. Overall, more than two-thirds of adults in the United States are overweight or have obesity. Obesity is a massive problem in our country, starting with proper nutrition and making informed decisions.
